Do Cultural Night Sightseeing

Discover the illuminated medieval villages of the border region, between Portugal and Spain.
In the summer, away from high temperatures, castles, fortresses, and hermitages dress rigorously at night to proudly welcome visitors.
The brand “Night Cultural Tourism Destination” was born from the desire of the partners of the EURORACE (Alentejo-Center-Extremadura) Euroregion to illuminate monuments in hidden towns and villages outside.

Discover the cultural, historical and gastronomic heritage, which gave rise to legends and stories, over generations. And that “winks” at fans of epic series, such as “Game of Thrones”, who wish to experience an adventure through alleys, walls and towers, with gothic arcades and wrought-iron balconies.
Discover the Raia Region at Night
Alentejo and Extremadura invite you to live slowly. Savor the moment, unhurriedly and away from the crowds. Going out at the end of the day, when the temperature invites you to go outside. Enjoying the warm and calm summer nights, without distractions.
Away from the pollution of large cities, the Raia area is the ideal place to observe the stars and constellations at night. An excellent pretext to challenge family and friends to an evening activity.

Or, who knows, get the kids together and organize a fun “Gambozino Hunt” while discovering the region's historical heritage.
This is also the ideal setting for the more romantic. Make a declaration of love in a castle, which once housed the royals, or in a hermitage, whose Our Lady blesses lovers.
New Sightseeing Route for Hot Summer Nights
Alentejo and Extremadura are inland regions, marked by hot and dry summers, with temperatures that can exceed 40ºC, especially in the months of June, July and August.

This invites for a nap or siesta, in which the inhabitants remain at home after lunch and the stores are closed, from 14:00 to 17:00.
The extreme heat in summer also keeps tourists away, who find it difficult to walk on the street and are looking for shade and cool spaces.

For this reason, late afternoon is the most pleasant time to take a walk outside. Temperatures drop to 25ºC and 20ºC, and the days are longer in summer (about 10 hours of sunshine).
Dusk is a magical moment in this region, celebrated by troubadours, writers, and poets. Be dazzled by the magnificent sunset, in which the sky is covered with orange, blue and purple hues, over the mountains and plains as far as the eye can see.

A geographical area, sprinkled with cork oaks, olive trees and yellow wheat, known for its cork, olive oil, Iberian pork, cheese and wine, not to mention the famous convent confectionery.
